In case you haven’t heard on our Facebook page or Twitter handle, WelcomeOmDC is organizing a yoga rally tomorrow, May 7th, from 7:30-9am in Freedom Plaza (13th & Pennsylvania NW). Faith Hunter of Shakti Mind Body Studio will be leading us in sun salutations during the hustle bustle of rush hour.
The rally coincides with the DC City Council 2011 Fiscal Policy hearing, where the organization DC Fiscal Policy Institute will voice their proposal to tax more services, such as gyms and yoga studios.
Ian Mishalove, owner of Flow Yoga Center, has penned a letter encouraging the yoga community to forward an electronic petition letter to the council members. Sources inside the DC City Council say that over 3,000 emails have been sent in response to this tax proposal.
In addition to yogis flexing our political muscles for the news cameras… be on the lookout for some sick guerilla yoga poses.
