We’re sad, but the bootie camp series with Chad Raymond is coming to an end. (No pun intended). Fortunately, Chad is leaving us with one last butt-toning exercise: weighted sumo squats. And have no fears because Chad is not leaving us for good– you can still catch him teaching his noon boot camp classes, every M, W, F at Results Mount Vernon. You can also follow Chad on his blog, jumpinjackchad.blogspot.com. Read More

Okay, here goes… confession time. Call me a narcissist, but I check out my derriere in the mirror whenever I can. I know it’s poor form, but after taking Chad’s boot camp class for several weeks, there is a noticeable difference in my backside. And truth be told, I can’t help staring at it. Seriously – there are muscles in there that haven’t perked up in years! And lo and behold – they are back in business! So I am all over the mirror like white on rice.

That said, I am sharing my latest bootie-toning tip from Results Trainer Chad Raymnd: Single Leg Planks.

Training With Chad (Part 2 of 4)

So it is always around this time of year — when the sun is shining, weather is warm, and flowers are finally starting to peak out from winter– that a panic button goes off inside my head that blares: “Oh crap – why did I drink so many mochas and indulge in so many homemade cookies this winter?”

Then I realize that I have exactly three months to train, tone, and tan my body so that I don’t scare beachgoers into thinking that some gelatin-albino-lady has descended upon the shores. And that’s when I am grateful for trainers like Chad, with targeted workouts that help get my body beach-ready for summer.

The exercise: Side Plank Leg Raisers

Chad helps his clients get killer abs and booties with side plank leg raisers. This exercise can be done anywhere– your home, the gym, yoga studio, or outside. Specifically, side plank leg raisers target the core, gluteus medius, and the abductors, or hips. So, whether you are a yogi, runners, or CrossFitter, this is an exercise that will benefit your workout.

How To Do It

Step 1: First, turn to your right side, and bend your right elbow, extending your hand out in front of you. Extend your left leg and bend your right leg at the knee behind you. Place your left hand on your hip. Push off of your right elbow. Raise your hips, making sure that your head, hips, and feet are on the same imaginary line. Make sure that your hips never sink down past that line.

Step 2: Raise your left leg, to about hip level. Make sure that your leg is straight, without hyperextending your knee. Repeat 15 times on each leg. Chad recommends doing two sets on each side for maximum results.

"Bootie" Camp with Chad (Part 1 of 4)

Okay, I admit it. The first thing I do when I try on a pair of pants is turn around and see whether or not they flatter my butt. And after working in fitness retail, I know that both men and women are equally guilty of checking out our booties in the mirror.

So, we asked Results Mount Vernon’s Lead Trainer Chad Raymond for some quick glute-toning exercises that you can do at the gym or in the privacy of your home. The following exercise is the first of a four-part series of workouts for improving your gluteus maximus.

The exercise: Torso Twist Lunges

The first exercise Chad suggests to get your bootie fired up is torso twist lunges. These twisting lunges will bot only tone up your glutes, but will also work your thighs and core.

How to do it:

First, grab yourself a three or five pound weight. If you are at home, a soup can or object of similar weight and size is fine. Take a long step forward with your right leg holding a weight out in front of you, arms completely straight, as pictured below.

Next, lunge deeply, tracing your knee over your foot. Your knee should not extend past your foot, but should aim for a 90-degree angle.

Finally, turning from your core, twist to the right. Make sure your spine is as vertical as possible, and that the work is coming from your core. Twist back to the center and repeat fifteen times. Then switch to the left leg and repeat.

Chad suggests doing two sets of fifteen repetitions on each leg to maximize the workout.
